<description>How do we get more people interested in Linux and free software? For years, Linux users have tried to convince people by explaining why Linux is better, why software freedom matters, or why privacy is important. But if someone needs Photoshop, Fortnite, or something else their current platform provides, those arguments may mean very little to them. Maybe there's another approach. My daughter has been using Debian for years. When she first got her ThinkPad, I didn't give her a "Linux computer." I simply gave her a computer. Linux was normal because it was all she needed to know. Years later, a conversation about the restrictions on her smartphone led us somewhere unexpected: for the first time, we really discussed why her Linux computer is different. And suddenly, software freedom wasn't an abstract philosophical argument anymore. It was something she already had — and didn't want to give up. In this video, I talk about introducing people to Linux without becoming the annoying Linux evangelist, why beginner-friendly distributions matter, and why giving young people the opportunity to experience free software may be more valuable than trying to convince adults to switch. The goal shouldn't be to force anyone to use Linux. Give people the opportunity to experience freedom, let them understand the alternatives, and let them make their own choice.
