🔥 There is a privilege escalation tool called DOAS Like, comment, and share to support more content! 📝 Quick Summary of the Video In this video, I share my thoughts on the growing trend of rewriting core Linux utilities like sudo and GNU coreutils in Rust. With Ubuntu switching to a Rust-based sudo in the next release, I ask: is memory safety a strong enough reason to rewrite well-functioning tools? I also explore alternatives like doas, compare usage patterns, and reflect on what this shift means for the future of Linux. Is it evolution or unnecessary duplication? 👀 Watch my entire MAIN playlist here https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3KVgwMTWoO0wKgJWk3BBtB20okJvu_6q 📍 Timestamps 00:00 A fact. 00:18 How do you feel about Rust re-writes? 01:03 SUDO-RS now default in Ubuntu 07:37 DOAS as a good alternative 17:37 Outro ❤️ Help Keep This Content Going Memberships: https://youtube.com/@LinuxRenaissance/join Patreon: https://patreon.com/LinuxRenaissance Ko-fi: https://ko-fi.com/darth Merch: https://shop.linuxrenaissance.com Zorin Pro: https://zorin.com/linuxrenaissance 📢 Join The Linux Renaissance Community Website: https://linuxrenaissance.com Matrix Room: https://matrix.to/#/%23lrl:matrix.org 🎵 Music By H0ffman: https://soundcloud.com/h0ffman/sets/protracker-amiga 🙏 Linux Renaissance is supported by OPNsense: https://opnsense.org Links within this video may contain affiliate links that I receive a small commission from.#Linux #RustLang #Coreutils #sudo #Ubuntu #OpenSource #doas #MemorySafety #SystemSoftware #LinuxRenaissance #Linux

You already have “su” and anything more fancy belongs to the realm of sysutil tools. It’s only a pkg install away.

@andersgo@mastodon.bsd.cafe hey, thanks! now that we are on FreeBSD topic here, do you know why FreeBSD does NOT ship neither doas nor sudo in their base install? I know doas is a tool from OpenBSD, and not FreeBSD, but surely these two BSD's could collaborate more than they do? I would love to see doas becoming a part of FreeBSD base install with no need to fetch it via pkg.
